Friendlier online dating experience for women everywhere

The dating app Tinder is taking a different approach to their matching system due to plenty of complaints about harassment and bad behavior. It is launching a setting allowing women to only be able to interact with the men they message first. This had been the most differentiating factor between tinder and its competitor bumble.

On behalf of the changes Match Group CEO Mandy Ginsberg stated tinder’s brand-new setting is “not a reaction to any competitor.”

“As a woman CEO running a company that touches millions of women around the world, it’s a big priority for me and an area that I’m particularly passionate about,” Ginsberg expressed in an earnings call. “We build products for everyone, everywhere and I intend to ensure that we are consistently innovating and delivering products and features to address the needs of men, and of course, from my perspective, especially women, who are looking to meet someone new.”

Rivals Bumble and Tinder have a common history, since Tinder co-founder Whitney Wolfe Herd left the company to start her own app to offer a much more female friendly alternative to Tinder. She alleged sexual harassment and discrimination, which was settled outside of court.

Bumble utilizes swiping quite similar to Tinder with a twist though – only women are able to initiate a connection once two people mutually “like” each other.

Despite Match Group saying they aren’t commenting on merges and acquisitions speculation, Match Group was reportedly still interested in Bumbles business as recently as November of last year.

“We applaud any company making business decisions that empower women.” Wolfe herd issued a statement on Wednesday on the topic of tinder launching its newest addition.

The release of tinder’s feature is not certain yet, but it may potentially appear within other Match Group portfolio company, according to the company, including brands such as OKCupid, Plenty of Fish and Match.com.
